Flashes

Kilt flashes are decorative garters worn with traditional long hose, serving both a functional and stylish purpose. They are short strips of fabric that hang from elasticated garters worn around the calf, just below the knee. Traditionally, the primary function of kilt flashes is to help hold the kilt hose (the socks worn with kilts) in place, ensuring they don’t slip down during movement. Nowadays hose hold themselves up, but flashes add extra support and are a traditional embellishment. 

Our Flashes are available in various colours. Usually they are meant often complementing the tartan or theme of the kilt and other accessories. They can either match the kilt's tartan or provide a contrasting accent, adding a splash of colour and visual interest to the overall outfit.

In addition to their practical role, flashes also have historical and cultural significance.
