Each Sgian Dubh is made to order, usually in around five working days, although please allow for up to ten.

Engravable steel-blade Sgian Dubh with bagpiper crest, celtic or thistle-knot metalwork and the stone top colour of your choice.

Although bagpipes were near universal instruments throughout medieval Europe, in Scotland these small reedy instruments were developed into the Great Highland Bagpipe, being much larger and louder, capable of carrying a tune through the glens and over the din of battle. Here we have a piper in full dress including kilt, doublet, plaid and bonnet.

Our casting department hand-make each pewter mount, while our high-temperature cast-resin machine moulds each handle and sheath. Meanwhile our engravers will be finishing the blades with any messages you care to add. Once all the parts are finished they are carefully but robustly assembled in our finishing workshop, before being polished to perfection. All in all you can be sure of the finest in  heirloom quality Scottish workmanship, having passed through the hands of up to nine expert craftspeople.

Features:

  • Durable Pewter Celtic-Knot or Thistle metal work
  • Six different coloured stone options available
  • Traditional Steel Blade (not suitable for under 18's)
  • Presentation Box
  • Hand made in Scotland
