Measurement & Sizing FAQs

Each garment that requires sizes has individual guides – just follow those and you’ll be fine.

Can I just use my standard jeans or trouser size? Please do not use your standard jeans size! Modern jeans and trousers sit much lower on the hips than traditional tailoring and kilts, which generally sit higher up at the natural waist (near the navel). Using a jeans size will almost always result in a garment that is too small. Please use a flexible measuring tape and follow our measuring guides exactly.

Should I take my own measurements? We recommend having a friend, family member, or local tailor take your measurements for you. When you try to measure yourself, you naturally bend over or twist, which changes your body shape and leads to inaccurate numbers. Keep the measuring tape snug, but not uncomfortably tight, and stand up straight!

What if I am between sizes or unsure if I measured correctly? If a measurement seems odd to you, or if you are right between two sizes, please reach out to us before placing your order. Our team knows these garments inside and out, and we are more than happy to review your numbers to make sure everything looks proportionate.

What happens if I accidentally provide the wrong measurements? We know mistakes happen! If the garment is still in production, just send us a line – as long as its early enough in the process it should be no problem to amend. As outlined in our Returns Policy, if a custom garment doesn't fit because the provided measurements were slightly off, we can usually take the item back for adjustment. Please note that you will be responsible for the return shipping, and there may be a small surcharge for the alteration.

Do I need to provide a measurement for my sporran? Sporran chains are highly adjustable. However, they do come in standard length brackets. If your waist measurement is particularly small or requires a larger size (typically over 46 inches), please let us know in your order notes so we can ensure we send the correct chain strap length.

What if my weight fluctuates before my event? If you are ordering well in advance of a wedding or event and expect your weight to change, please let us know. Depending on the garment, we can advise you on the best time to submit your final measurements before production begins so we can guarantee the best fit possible.
