Brittany, located in northwestern France, has a deep-rooted Celtic heritage that connects it closely to the Britons of the West Country. From the fourth to the ninth century, Britons settled in the region, bringing their language, customs, and traditions. The Breton language remains closely related to Cornish, and the Bretons are proudly recognized as one of the six Celtic Nations. This shared heritage is also expressed through a vibrant piping tradition, where the Great Highland Bagpipe has gained widespread popularity since the end of the Second World War, complementing the region’s own native bagpipes.
This beautifully crafted cap badge celebrates Brittany's unique identity. It features the historic crest of Brittany — an ermine or stoat adorned with an ermine cape, the traditional heraldic symbol of the Dukes of Brittany. The accompanying motto translates as “It will never be stained,” symbolising purity, loyalty, and honour.
Each badge is made from premium-quality, 100% lead-free pewter and is individually hand cast and hand finished by our expert craftsmen in Glasgow, Scotland. Designed to be worn on the Glengarry or Balmoral bonnet, traditionally on the left-hand side atop the rosette, it can also be worn as a brooch. Approximate size: 5cm by 6cm.
