A large 'boss' style plaid brooch, a real statement piece for your
shoulder. This brooch has a large Celtic Cross design, with cut-outs to reveal
your tartan below. It is slightly domed on top and has deeply-cast relief detailing
around the knot work.
A cross is made Celtic by adding the round 'nimbus' behind. Massive examples
were carved in stone and found outside holy sites, meeting places or markets. They
were popular through early medieval Christian Britain, and many can still be
seen in Scotland, not least the fine display on the Island of Iona. The
knot motif is meant to represent eternity, and the twisting fortunes of life.
This is a large brooch, 90mm in diameter, with a good weight behind it.
Ideal for use with our fly plaids, or as a showpiece upon a lady’s shawl. It is
also the ideal fastening for our Great Kilt. This brooch has a large brass pin
on the back, suitable for any job required of it.
When used with a fly plaid, plaid brooches act as weights to keep them
in place – they should not be pinned into your jacket, in case the plaid snags
on anything.
Completely designed, cast and finished in our Glasgow workshops,
Scotland, cast in 100% lead-free pewter.
