Cap Badge Irish Clan / Sept Crest

Choose from a range of over fifty Irish sept crest badges. Sept is the Irish equivalent of what were called clans in Highland Scotland.

Our range of Irish crests were devised by the (late) heraldic artist Romilly Squire, who served for many years as a consultant to the Chief Herald of Ireland. These badges use the Crests from Irish coats of arms (full coat of arms shouldn’t really be worn on such a small scale). He then set these crests within a traditional Claddagh circlet motif, along with the Irish-Gaelic rendering of the sept name. All the Irish crests we use are based on the historic examples found in the archives of the Irish Office of Arms. You can learn more about the philosophy of our Irish Crests here.

This is a premium-quality hand-finished pewter cap badge. Each one is hand cast by our highly skilled craftsmen at our workshop in Glasgow, Scotland.

The cap badge is worn on the Glengarry or Balmoral bonnet on the left hand side, on top of the rosette. They can also be worn as brooches or whatever purpose you’d like.

Each badge has a diameter of 5cm. More crests are added from time to time, so be sure to check back in.
